MATERIAL REFERENCE

PVC sign board is not one material specification.

Thickness, density, cell structure, surface consistency and intended finish determine whether a PVC sheet belongs in routine print production or exposed-edge dimensional fabrication.

From printed panels to finished dimensional parts.

A thin printed panel and a thick painted letter call for different production steps. We define those steps around the component you are buying.

  • Thin printed panels: knife cutting where the material, thickness and geometry permit.
  • Thick routed parts: dimensional letters, backers and profiles are machined for smooth, clean edges. Tooling and finishing passes are chosen for the surfaces your customer will see and handle.
  • Painted components: edge preparation and the specified face-and-edge coating are part of the painted fabrication scope.

Your order or quote identifies the supplied finish. Tell us which edges remain exposed and whether the parts will be painted, assembled or installed as supplied.

Printed panel versus dimensional component

Routine printed panelsFlatness, surface consistency, print quality and appropriate stiffness drive the selection.
Exposed routed edgesCell structure and material consistency become more visible after machining.
Painted fabricationSurface preparation, edge finishing, primer and coating compatibility matter.
Named specificationsWhen drawings require PALIGHT or another named product, quote and supply that construction explicitly.

Thin PVC is commonly selected for printed panels and inserts. Greater thickness can support dimensional letters, layered components, routed profiles and fabricated assemblies, but the proper choice still depends on span, mounting, exposure and finish.

What changes the finished result

  • Direct UV print: surface condition and ink compatibility influence appearance and adhesion.
  • Applied vinyl: surface preparation and film selection remain part of the system.
  • Routing: tooling, feeds, speeds, workholding and toolpath strategy affect the edge.
  • Painting: preparation and compatible coating systems matter as much as the board name.
  • Outdoor use: thickness alone does not establish long-term dimensional stability or structural suitability.
